Sir Thomas Howard, Earl of Surrey and third Duke of Norfolk

Son of Thomas Howard, second Duke of Norfolk. Married the daughter of Edward Stafford, Duke of Buckingham. His daughter, Mary, married Henry Fitzroy. Uncle to Anne Boleyn, a relationship which ensured him favour from Henry. Appointed Earl Marshal in 1533. In 1537, made godfather to Prince Edward. Uncle to Katherine Howard, narrowly managing to escape censure on her downfall. The treasonable actions of his son, Henry Howard, however, led to the Duke's imprisonment at the end of Henry VIII's reign and throughout that of Edward VI. Pardoned under Mary Tudor, but died soon afterwards.
