Appointed Marshal of Calais in 1511 and Deputy of Calais in 1513. Undertook a number of diplomatic missions to the Low Countries. Made a member of the Privy Chamber in 1519. Instrumental in the organisation of the Field of the Cloth of Gold. Appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in 1523. Sent on embassy to Spain in 1525, he contracted dysentry and died at Toledo, where he was buried.
