Gerald Fitzgerald, eighth Earl of Kildare

1456?-1513

Appointed Deputy of Ireland under Edward IV. Supported Lambert Simnel in his claim to the English throne, but was later pardoned by Henry VII. In 1504 defeated uprising at Knockdoe on behalf of the King and was rewarded with the Order of the Garter. Continued as Deputy of Ireland under Henry VIII and died after being shot during a campaign in 1513.
