Godson of Henry VIII. Took over from Arthur Plantagent, Viscount Lisle, as Deputy of Calais in 1540. Appointed Lord Chamberlain and Privy Councillor in 1546. High Constable at the coronations of Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I. Charged with treason in 1551, but released a year later. Imprisoned under Elizabeth, but again restored to favour, serving as a privy councillor until his death in 1580.
