Anne de Montmorency, Duke of Montmorency

A close childhood friend of Francis I, King of France. Fought at the battles of Ravenna (1512) and Marignano (1515). Briefly held hostage in England in 1519. In 1538 became Constable of France. Fell out of favour at the end of Francis I's reign, but restored to office under Henry II. Died aged seventy-four, of wounds sustained in battle.
