Fought in the French wars of the early part of Henry VIII's reign, for which service he was knighted in 1513. Present at the Field of the Cloth of Gold. Became a Privy Councillor in 1539. One of the commanders at the siege of Boulogne. Vice-Chamberlain of Edward VI's household 1547-50 and Comptroller of the Household from 1550.
