A pinnacled glacier berg observed in lat.62° 41'S. long. 17° 32' W

January 1915

Frank Hurley

Presented to King George V, 1917

Hurley delighted in the strange shapes formed by the ice as it broke itself into pieces and melted in the sun. This giant berg would have broken (’calved’) from a glacier many hundreds of miles away on the coast of Antarctica and gradually eroded in the sun, wind and sea.
