Robert Falcon Scott
Probably acquired by King Edward VII
Scott’s official account of the Discovery expedition was commissioned by the Royal Society and the Royal Geographical Society. Scott was unsure of his writing ability, but the work was published to great acclaim in 1905, feeding the public’s enthusiasm for polar exploration. It also helped to pay the expedition’s outstanding debts.
