What were Castles for?

Role play during a schools' session at Windsor Castle

Key stage 1 / Key stage 2 CASTLES, MATERIALS  Why were castles built, what were they used for and who lived in them? Pupils explore the role of castles in medieval times, and learn about all the people needed to service them and their noble occupants. In this interactive talk we look at the means of attack available to determined enemies and, through role play, discover how Windsor’s formidable defences kept them at bay. For local groups, we also discuss the development of Windsor town.

"We had such an amazing time, the children loved it."
