Investigating Holyrood Abbey

A view of Holyrood Abbey taken from the Palace Gardens

Pupils investigate the history of Holyrood Abbey and look for evidence of its turbulent past. Explore the ruins of the Abbey with a member of the Learning team and find out about the daily lives of the monks who used to live here, the royal celebrations that took place within its walls and how it came to be a ruin.

An optional art activity is included:

  • P2 – P4 pupils can decorate their own abbey with stone rubbings and a stained glass window
  • Pupils in P5 – P7 can try their hand at writing like the Augustian monks, with quill and ink
