Lecture: "Properly and newly built". The changing face of the Renaissance residence

The Four Last Things by MARTEN VAN HEEMSKERK (Heemskerk (north of Haarlem) 1498–Haarlem 1574)

Wednesday, 27 February 2013

John Goodall, Architectural Historian and Author

This event will have live speech-to-text transcription.

All the art presented in the exhibition has been divorced from its original context. This lecture explores the buildings and domestic interiors it was created to ornament. It will describe the architectural setting of art in grand residences and discuss important changes in decorative fashion. In so doing the lecture will show how an understanding of the architectural context of these objects can help inform our understanding of them. The lecture will cover buildings across Europe but focus on English examples.

Price: £5 with an exhibition ticket or 1-Year Pass.

Relates to the The Northern Renaissance: Dürer to Holbein exhibition at The Queen's Gallery, London, 2012-13
