Lecture: Art without frontiers. Connections and cross currents in Northern Europe

Erasmus of Rotterdam ALBRECHT DÜRER
Wednesday, 13 March 2013
The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace

Lucy Whitaker, Senior Curator of Paintings, Royal Collection Trust

The meeting of the great German artist Dürer and the Venetian artist Giovanni Bellini in Venice is famous. This lecture will look at artists’ connections and influences across Northern Europe. From Nuremberg to Antwerp, Basel to London, Wittenberg to Paris, artists in this period travelled, met up with other artists from different countries and studied each other’s work. What were the interesting connections forged between artists in such a large and diverse area and what are the links between the great artists of the so-called Northern Renaissance?

Price: £5 with an exhibition ticket or 1-Year Pass.

Relates to the The Northern Renaissance: Dürer to Holbein exhibition at The Queen's Gallery, London, 2012-13
