- Daughter of Frederick II, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, she married Frederick, Prince of Wales, elder son of George II
- Fostered the interest of her eldest son, George III, in architecture with tuition by William Chambers
- Extended and enhanced the landscaping, building and exotic planting begun by her husband at Kew
- Commissioned Liotard to paint portraits in pastels of her nine children
- Commissioned Knapton to paint a group portrait of herself and children as a memorial to her husband
- Collected portraits of her family by Francis Cotes and Angelica Kauffmann
