Adam Weisweiler (1744-1820)
Pier table, c.1787-90
c.1787-90
Oak, ebony, gilt bronze, marble 91.6 x 175 x 52.7 cm Made for George IV when Prince of Wales
This elaborately mounted table and the companion piece, both designed for the display of ornaments, formed part of the highly fashionable decoration of the new Chinese Room at Carlton House, and were probably supplied by the Parisian dealer-decorator Dominique Daguerre, working to the direction of the Princes architect Henry Holland. Copies of both pieces were made in 1819 by Edward Bailey and all four tables were then sent to Brighton Pavilion. RCIN 13.1
