- Daughter of Christian IX of Denmark
- Had a fine collection of Danish paintings and decorative art
- Formed a splendid collection of works by Fabergé, helped by her sister Dagmar (Marie Feodorovna) who had married the future Tsar Alexander III in 1866
- An enthusiastic and prolific amateur photographer
- Her principal residences were Marlborough House, London (1863-1901 and 1911-25) and Sandringham House, Norfolk, in addition to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle
