Five Gold Rings: A Royal Wedding Souvenir Album From Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II
Published to mark the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, this charming publication tells the stories of five royal marriages - from the couple’s first meeting to the wedding day and honeymoon. Organised chronologically, the book covers the marriages of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, George V and Queen Mary, George VI and Queen Elizabeth (The Queen Mother), and Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh. It is richly illustrated with images of wedding dresses and jewellery, gifts between bride and groom, engagement and wedding presents from friends and family, wedding cakes and flowers, invitations, menus, music and photographs. Woven through the text are personal letters and diary entries from the Royal Archives, several of which are reproduced for the first time. Many items illustrated in the book are included in the exhibition Royal Weddings 1840 – 1947: From Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle (opens 27 April) and in this year’s special exhibition at the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Diamond Wedding of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. The book has been compiled by Jane Roberts, Librarian of the Royal Library, Windsor Castle. It will be available from Royal Collection shops at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, from www.royalcollection.org.uk and all good bookshops.
