  • Daughter of Francis, Prince and Duke of Teck, and Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge, granddaughter of George III
  • King George V was her second cousin once removed
  • Took a close interest in the Royal Collection, and was an enthusiastic collector and recorder of all types of works of art, especially pieces with historical links to the British royal family
  • Collected piqué, jade, lacquer, silver, enamels, rings, seals, Stuart memorabilia, fans, gems, jewels, gold boxes and Fabergé
  • Was presented in 1924 with Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, designed by Lutyens and now on show at Windsor Castle
  • Refurbished the interiors of the Palace of Holyroodhouse
  • At Frogmore, arranged the display cabinets and replanted many areas of the garden
