  • The eldest daughter of James II and his first wife, Anne Hyde
  • In 1677 married her first cousin, William, Prince of Orange
  • Following the Glorious Revolution and her father’s flight to the continent, in 1689 was crowned Joint Sovereign with her husband, as Mary II and William III
  • Furnished the newly-enlarged palaces of Hampton Court and Kensington and as a keen gardener oversaw the layout of the gardens
  • Assembled a fine collection of blue and white Delftware and oriental ceramics
  • Commissioned Kneller to paint portraits of her ladies-in-waiting
