  • Remained a Roman Catholic and was looked to by the Vatican to reconvert Britain to Catholicism
  • Fled to the Continent during the Civil War and lived for much of her later life in her native France
  • Received gifts of religious paintings from Italy for her private chapel
  • Arranged for the painter Orazio Gentileschi to visit England
  • The Queen’s House at Greenwich, begun for her mother-in-law, was completed for her
  • She was the first queen to use the Queen’s Chapel at St James’s Palace
  • In her final home in France she had a fine art collection, including pieces from the British Royal Collection
