FABERGÉ

Rowan tree

c. 1900

RCIN 40508

Fabergé's flowers are perhaps his most exquisite objects. The natural beauty of flowers strongly appealed to Fabergé and might explain why his flower studies are so realistic and, for the most part, botanically accurate. Their naturalism enhanced their popularity with his clients in Russia, where the short spring and summer months meant that home-grown flowers were seen only briefly.

The Royal Collection contains 26 out of a total of approximately 80 believed to have been made. In most of these examples Fabergé used nephrite to imitate leaves.
