GIOVANNI BENEDETTO CASTIGLIONE (1609-64)
Studies of dromedaries and goats
c. 1630Pen and ink | 18.3 x 20.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 903945
A sheet of three studies of goats, and three studies of dromedaries
This is perhaps the earliest surviving work by Castiglione. Like most young artists, he would have learned to draw by copying established motifs – dromedaries were not to be found in even as cosmopolitan a city as Genoa.
