The miniature clearly derives from Isaac Oliver's large-scale cabinet miniature of Henry, Prince of Wales in the Royal Collection but has been reduced to a smaller bust-length scale and to the oval format more traditional to the portrait minaiture form. It was probably completed from a sitting during the Prince's lifetime.
