Edward, Prince of Wales, the Black Prince (1330-1376)

circa 1737

RCIN 37067

This bust and that of Edward VI were commissioned by Queen Caroline as part of a line of British kings reaching back to King Alfred. Although never completed, the project highlighted the Queen's interest in genealogy and history. The Black Prince was considered by the early Georgians to be a great leader who tempered military prowess with moderation and clemency. Commissioned by Queen Caroline Cat. 151
