This album, inscribed ALBERT on the front cover, contains 94 pages of drawings and watercolours by Prince Albert, chiefly made in the early 1830s. The subject matter ranges from dynamic battle scenes to personal caricatures. Many of the brightly coloured watercolours at the start of the album, feature a particular individual, who participates in many of the battle scenes. His identity is uncertain but it may be Prince Albert’s uncle, Count Emmanuel Mensdorff-Pouilly (1777 – 1852), who fought in the Napoleonic Wars and had an illustrious military and political career. Prince Albert continued to add drawings to the album until 1843, three years after moving to England on his marriage to Queen Victoria.
