On the day of her departure for the Commonwealth tour, the Duchess of York wrote in her diary, 'Feel very miserable at leaving the baby. Went up & played with her & she was so sweet. Luckily she doesn't realise anything'. During the first sitting following the Duke and Duchess' departure, Princess Elizabeth was given photographs of her parents to keep their faces familiar whilst they were away.
