BASIL BEATTIE (B. 1935)
Janus Series
2009RCIN 212704
A drawing of three arched forms, each with a triangular form within, reminiscent of a framed perspective view of a road heading towards a horizon. The drawing is part of Beattie's Janus series, after the Roman god Janus, often represented as having two faces. The works in the Janus series use stacks of three or four units, each with a suggestion of a perspectival horizon to imply journeys or travel. These forms have also been suggested to resemble rear-view mirrors or windscreens, implying the road ahead as well as the road already travelled.
