Corfu from the Citadel

The Prince arrived on the island of Corfu on 23 February, and spent 3 days visiting British dignitaries as well as sight-seeing. In 1862 Corfu, part of the Ionians Islands, was a British Protectorate, administered by a British Lord High Commissioner. The island was returned to Greece on 21 May 1864. The photograph is signed, captioned and dated in the negative, 'F Bedford Corfu'. The number in the Day & Son series is 132.
