The carving, Chauta’s Family, is made from sausage-tree wood and comprises a female head and a climbing male torso with an eagle flying below. The woman's hair intermingles with ears of corn, forming a cage in which children are playing. The carving expresses unity and peace, cardinal virtues for the people of Malawi and an expression of the warm heart of Africa.
