Leonardo made many anatomical drawings throughout his career, and performed dissections to discover how the human body worked. In these studies Leonardo explores how two muscles of the thigh act upon the knee joint to cause the leg to bend. The accompanying notes are written in Leonardo’s habitual backwards ‘mirror-writing’.
