A self-portrait drawing of Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini. The drawing shows the head and shoulders, facing three-quarters to the right.
Bernini was the leading sculptor and architect of the Roman Baroque, but he also executed a number of drawn and painted portraits. In this self-portrait, the ageing artist has investigated his own features with great honesty, revealing his deeply furrowed brow, hollow cheeks and sagging eyelids.
