A hand-coloured print showing Napoleon and Death sitting face to face on the battlefield of Leipzig. Behind them the French are vanquished by an allied army. The battle was a major defeat for Napoleon, who was forced to retreat to France. Rowlandson’s print records a large illuminated picture placed outside the shop of his publisher Rudolph Ackermann to celebrate the victory. Inscribed in the plate: T.Rowlandson delt.
