A set of eight silver gilt ice pails, each in the form of a Greek krater, with an egg and dart border, the body cast with dancers and musicians, representing the Triumph of Ariadne, the lower body with acanthus leaves, and two vine-stock handles, on four winged lion feet; the circular base has an ivy leaf border and two wreath handles with rams' head cornucopia mounts. Each pail has a liner and a detachable collar with a fruiting vine border.
Provenance
The pails were bought by George IV when Prince Regent, in June 1811, for £4166 10s 7d.
