Haslem's enamel is copied after after the octagonal miniature by Anthony Stewart (1773-1846) of Princess Feodora dating from 1823/4 (420742; Royal Collection). According to the inscription on the reverse of the enamel, it shows Princess Feodora at the age of sixteen years, although the date '1828' engraved on the reverse of Stewart's miniature would make the princess some four to five years older than this.
The enamel was one of those selected by Haslem for display at the Great Exhibition in 1851 (Great Exhibition 1851, II, p. 835, no. 237: 'Princess Feodora of Leiningen after Stewart'); it later hung in the Queen's Sitting Room, Windsor Castle before being placed in the Royal Library.Provenance
Commissioned by Queen Victoria from the artist in 1847
