Henrik Immanuel Wigström (1862-1923)
Duckling c. 1907
Aventurine quartz, cabochon rubies, gold | 4.8 x 5.3 x 2.8 cm (whole object) | RCIN 40468
-
A duckling, carved in pale cream-brown aventurine quartz with cabochon ruby eyes and chased red gold legs. The aventurine quartz used for this study of a duckling lacks the naturalism of other hardstones selected to represent the true colouring of a particular animal, however the animal sculptures themselves are very carefully observed. The Royal Collection has a total of four models of ducks in aventurine quartz made in Wigström's workshop.
Mark of Henrik Wigström; gold mark of 72 zolotniks (1908-17)
