A portrait of a young girl, wearing a white bodice and skirt, decorated with jewels down the centre front and on the shoulders. A miniature in an ornate case is pinned to her left arm. Around her neck are numerous strings of pearls, arranged into both long and short loops. Her linen cuffs are decorated with embroidery and trimmed with spiky cutwork lace. In her right hand is an ostrich feather fan. Her hair is arranged into the heart-shaped hairstyle fashionable in the 1590s, raised over pads, with a fabric billiment set with pearls, several pearl bodkins and a jewelled pendant hanging over the forehead. There is a diaphanous scarf draped over her left arm, trimmed with gold fringe. In the background is the canopy of a bed. The painting is dated 1594, and the sitter's age given as 13.
