This box is a good example of a beautifully designed yet practical object, which shows the quality of workmanship and attention to detail which Fabergé paid to all the objects made by his firm, however insignificant and whatever their cost. The top is fitted with two lids which meet diagonally. The hinges are mounted with yellow gold arabesque motifs set with rose diamonds and cabochon rubies. Inside, the three compartments have sloping bases to enable stamps to be removed easily.
Mark of Michael Perchin; gold mark of 56 zolotniks
