Even the humblest of objects, in this case a small pot and cover, was treated with exacting standards by Fabergé and his craftsmen. Carved from nephrite, the pot replicates the form of a pear, complete with reeded gold stem terminating in a diamond and leaves in gold, highlighted with diamonds. The rim of the base is also set with a band of rose diamonds. The pot forms part of a large group of desk accessories in the Royal Collection, often in nephrite, many of which were acquired by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Mark of Michael Perchin; gold mark of 56 zolotniks (1896-1908); Fabergé in Cyrillic characters Catalogue entry from Royal Treasures, A Golden Jubilee Celebration, London 2002
