A circular convex shield or dhal of burnished steel, strengthened by a rim band. The surface of the shield decorated with a riveted band of grapes, vine leaves and tendrils surmounted by four enamelled and jewelled bosses, each terminating in an openwork gilt copper flange. The ornate decorations suggests that the shield may have been made for ceremonial use.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76 by Pratap Singh, Maharaja of Orchha.
