This portrait may have been amongst those taken for (and sent to) the Duke and Duchess of York while they were in Australia in the first half of 1927, to record the progress their daughter was making. During her parents’ absence, the Princess was entrusted to her grandparents, spending half the time at St Paul’s Walden in Hertfordshire with Lord and Lady Strathmore, and the remainder at Buckingham Palace with King George V and Queen Mary.
