Photograph of full length portrait of Prince Charles (b. 1948) and Princess Anne (b. 1950) standing side by side beside a measuring post, marked at regular points. Both face the viewer. In November 1953 The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh left for the Commonwealth tour which they had abandoned in Kenya the year before, owing to the death of King George VI. In this photograph, taken in April 1954, Adams has introduced a measuring stick to show the progress of Prince Charles and Princess Anne's height during their parents' absence. The photographs from these sittings were sent out to The Queen and the Duke, just as photographs of Princess Elizabeth had been sent to the Duke and Duchess of York during their tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1927.
