Carte-de-visite photograph of Tsesarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich (1843-65) and Princess Dagmar of Denmark (1847-1928), later Maria Feodorovna, Empress of Russia. Nicholas is standing to the left holding a walking stick and hat. Princess Dagmar stands beside him to the right, her arms linked through his left arm. There is a curtain and a chair to the left. Tsesarevich Nicholas became engaged to Princess Dagmar of Denmark in the summer of 1864. In 1865 he died of cerebro-spinal meningitis. His fiancée married his younger brother Tsesarevich Alexander, later Alexander III, Emperor of Russia in November 1866.
