Photograph of Maria Feodorovna, Empress of Russia (1847-1928) with her eldest son Tsesarevich Nicholas (1868-1918), later Nicholas II. They are standing together with Maria Feodorovna to the left, her arm linked with his. Tsesarevich Nicholas is wearing a Cossack uniform and holding a small sword. The photograph is signed 'Maria' and 'Nicky'. Nicholas II was Emperor of Russia from 1894 until his enforced abdication in 1917. Along with his family he was murdered by the Bolsheviks in 1918. His mother Maria Feodorovna escaped the Russian Revolution and settled in her native Denmark.
