Photograph of a full length portrait of Princess Helena (1846-1923), later Princess Christian of Schleswig Holstein, seated on the left and Princess Louise (1848-1939), later Duchess of Argyll, standing on the right. Both Princesses wear 18th century dresses they wore at a Fancy Ball at Claremont in Feb.1865. They both have powdered hair, ringlets; their dresses have short sleeves; necklaces, gloves.
This photograph is a copy of the original albumen print, made in carbon which is a process that is less susceptible to light damage. The original photograph had faded so a carbon copy was made and glued over it.
