A photograph showing a full-length portrait of Princess Louise standing, body three-quarters left, head turned to front, eyes looking to right. She wears an 18th century dress she wore at a Fancy Ball at Claremont in February 1865. Her hair powdered and in ringlets. Her dress is trimmed with lace that had belonged to Queen Victoria.
This photograph is a copy of the original albumen print, made in carbon which is a process that is less susceptible to light damage. The original photograph had faded so a carbon copy was made and glued over it.
