A photograph showing a full-length portrait of Princess Louise, body slightly left, head turned to right, in the dress she wore at a Fancy Ball at Claremont in February1865. Her hair is powdered and dressed in ringlets. Her short-sleeved dress is trimmed with lace that had belonged to Queen Victoria and a cameo profile brooch with possibly George III, pined on the left; necklace, gloves.
This photograph is a copy of the original albumen print, made in carbon which is a process that is less susceptible to light damage. The original photograph had faded so a carbon copy was made and glued over it.
