The windows and walls of the Castle are in the background with a plant growing up the wall.
In October 1863, Queen Victoria invited George Washington Wilson to photograph her at Balmoral and was keen to have informal portraits taken of the Crown Prince of Prussia and his wife, the Queen's eldest daughter, Princess Victoria and their children who were visiting Balmoral. These photographs would then be added to the Royal family's photograph albums. On the 21st October 1863, the Queen wrote in her journal 'Was photographed on the lower terrace by Wilson, & then went for a turn in the pony chair.' RA VIC / MAIN / QVJ (W) 21st October 1863 -
