Rectangular kneehole writing table, veneered in ebony and boulle marquetry of engraved brass and tortoiseshell, fitted with gilt bronze mounts. The table contains a single concave central drawer and three drawers at each side. The sides are mounted with gilt bronze Apollo masks. On eight scroll legs, joined by curved stretchers, with elaborate gilt bronze acanthus leaf feet.
Provenance
This bureau was used as a dressing table by George IV at Brighton Pavilion. It was probably purchased by the 3rd Marquess of Hertford, together with an identical table which remains in the Wallace Collection.
