Photograph of a Cairn in the form of a cross on a pile of stones on the headland at the entrance to Gritviken Harbour, South Georgia. Wilkins joined Quest as an ornithologist, but he also documented the expedition with his photographs, covering the voyage to South Georgia and Shackleton’s burial. The images shown here reveal the bleak landscapes surrounding Shackleton’s memorial cairn and grave on South Georgia, where Lady Shackleton had instructed that he should be buried.
