Photograph of the view from Endurance taken just after midnight with ice floes in the sea and an iceberg in the background. A peaceful start to 1915. Worsley recalled in his diary the loud ringing of the ship’s bells to herald the New Year. As the Endurance was south of the Antarctic circle, midnight of the New Year would have been celebrated in the light of day.
