Photograph of the surgeon, Dr Edward Atkinson (1881-1929), and the cook, Thomas Clissold (d.1963), hauling up a fish trap that has been set below the ice, where fish are able to survive. As the trap was brought out of the water into the air, the fish would have instantly frozen to death.
